Our Story

Meg Hamilton (she/her) and Sarah Dunsmore (she/they) established The Birch Center after recognizing the burnout and burden of isolation created by the COVID-19 pandemic.  As so many therapists do, they began their clinical journeys working in community mental health. Meg and Sarah met in 2013 as colleagues. Meg was working in a program serving survivors of human trafficking, and Sarah worked in a community based mental health program serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness. They fell in love, and were married in 2016. Meg began Birch Counseling in early 2016 and Sarah joined as co-owner in 2018. Now, they continue to work in private practice and parent their twin children.

Meg and Sarah's experience in community mental health developed a central value of criticizing systems in order to imagine something better. The Birch Center holds this value at it's core and challenges the status quo of options and information available to therapists. More than just a physical space, The Birch Center links therapists to resources and supports that allow them to work effectively and with balance. We support therapist wellness, and strive to increase accessibility to quality mental health care for our community through collaboration, awareness, care, and attention.

COLLABORATION

We commit to collaboration over competition, acknowledging that we have wisdom to give and wisdom to gain in relationship with one another.

ELEVATION

We strive to elevate clients by supporting them with reaching their goals, and to elevate ourselves and each other by seeking opportunities for growth, success, innovation, and well being. We strive to elevate our community through a commitment to improving accessibility to mental health care.

JUSTICE

We acknowledge the realities of imperfect systems and social

injustice, holding awareness that mental health support is a

limited or unavailable resource for many in need. We seek

to expand accessibility where possible and to engage as

persistent and self-reflective learners in a world of complex identities and experiences.

Our Providers

Our members are the heart of our purpose. Each brings unique skillsets and perspectives to their work with clients and to our community.
