About

Trauma profoundly impacts the mind and body, influencing how we relate to food and our overall nutritional habits. Trauma has the potential to effect our daily lives in ways ranging from diagnosed eating disorders, to an over-reliance on specific foods, to difficulty procuring, budgeting or planning for foods. In addition, the gut/brain axis is central to discussions about trauma and nutrition. Hormones communicate through the vagus nerve influencing our feelings and mood, and affecting hunger, digestion rates and our microbiome. Understanding the complex relationship between past experiences and eating behaviors fosters a holistic healing process. Nealie Tebb, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN, CEDS is a clinical dietitian with over 12 years experience. She specializes in nutrition intervention for the treatment of disordered eating and eating disorders in adolescent and adult populations, with additional training in trauma-informed care. Upon completion, participants will be able to:  1. Understand the ways trauma can impact how individuals perceive, interact with, and consume food. 2. Be familiar with the principles of trauma-informed nutrition. 3. Be familiar with the ways trauma-informed nutrition shows up in practice. 4. Identify how trauma-informed nutrition supports disordered eating recovery. Presenter: Nealie Tebb, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN, CEDS
