Clinicians often find themselves confused and stuck when navigating dissociative symptoms with clients. These symptoms present in a myriad of ways. Because their function is to keep untolerable experiences out of awareness, these symptoms can be daunting to ground and safely invite awareness to.
In this discussion, Meg Hamilton, LCMHC, ATR will provide an overview of dissociation. Learn about dissociative strategies including the differences and overlaps between dissociative defenses (blanking out, going numb, etc) and fragemented sense of self and identity. We'll discuss the ways dissociation presents in child, teen, and adult clients. Learn about basic treatment strategies and approaches, including resources for assessing dissociative symptoms in clients.
